Coming 3/6/12 . . . Doug Burr, “Trembling Lips and Pale Fingertips” 7″ Single

17 Feb

‘Trembling Lips and Pale Fingertips’ (out on 3/06) is the newest offering from Doug Burr featuring alternate versions of songs from his critically acclaimed record, O Ye Devastator. It will be released digitally and as a limited edition 7″ with 2 tracks on the vinyl and a 4-track download card.

For those who are unfamiliar with Doug Burr, he is a Denton, TX local troubadour . . .folk hero. After 3 full length albums, including the critically acclaimed O Ye Devastator, Burr has carved his path in music. His carefully crafted, heart-felt songs seem to resonate with all who hear them. On stage, be it Mr. Burr alone or accompanied by a full band, no one leaves unaffected. Call it folk, roots, americana, twang, folk pop . . . call it whatever you like, we’ve always had a hard time choosing a name for it.

Burr’s music means different things to different people, though there’s an underlying personal connection to each. Below are a few quotes from what others are saying:

Exquisitely detailed, slow and deliberate“- Paste Magazine

“Burr evokes distinctive voices such as Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy or Red House Painters’ Mark Kozelek. These warm, inviting compositions are effortlessly beautiful.”- Fort Worth Weekly

“Burr shares an intrinsic knowledge of song dynamics with the likes of Jeff Tweedy, and has a voice that tugs at the heart strings. Brilliant! ” – Americana UK

Doug Burr “Trembling Lips and Pale Fingertips” is the second in a series of 7″s being released as a joint effort by Velvet Blue Music, Spune, and Tree Fall Sounds.

Coming 2/28/12 . . . Gold Beach, “Gold Beach/The Soft Effect” 7″ Single

9 Feb

Initially hailing from the Houston area, the principle songwriters of Gold Beach, Tony Daugherty and Michael Winningham, grew up on the same street. The two relocated to Austin and put the band together, which includes a plethora of regional talent.

Their self released first record, “Habibti,” was called a “carefully crafted debut” by the Austin Chronicle. Gold Beach has supported national bands such as Memoryhouse, Talkdemonic, Wooden Birds, Balmorhea and recently completed a Daytrotter session. KUT/NPR Austin had the band in studio and Texas Music Matters/NPR included the band in their “Best of 2011″ list. The band has been hard at work and already has made plans in the studio with renown producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, the Walkmen, Wye Oak) to start work on the next record.

Gold Beach “Gold Beach/The Soft Effect” out 2/28 is the first in a series of 7″s being released as a joint effort by Velvet Blue Music, Spune, and Tree Fall Sounds. 2 tracks on beautiful white vinyl, which includes a previously unreleased song and a download card with an whopping 6 tracks! We anticipate great things for the band in 2012!

Coming Soon… Dennis Gonzalez Yells at Eels, “Wind Streaks in Syrtis Major”

30 Dec

Following our genre-less credo, Tree Fall Sounds is excited and honored to announce our 3rd release: Dennis Gonzalez Yells at Eels, “Wind Streaks in Syrtis Major.”

Headed by world renowned trumpeter/composer Dennis Gonzalez, Dallas based Yells at Eels are on the cutting-edge of the modern avant-garde/hard-bop/free-jazz genres. Joined by sons Aaron (double bass) and Stefan (drums), Yells at Eels merges Dennis’ avant-garde compositions and instrumentation with Aaron and Stefan’s punk/metal/grindcore influenced rhythms to create a unique aural experience that speaks to the very soul of any true music lover (jazz or otherwise).

“Wind Streaks in Syrtis Major” was recorded at the national radio affiliate in Gdańsk, Poland, Radio Gdańsk, and features Wojtek Mazolewski (bass) and Marek Pospieszalski (tenor sax). Together, the quintet exemplifies the very best of local Dallas musicians reaching across and joining up with musicians from a very local Polish scene to create a piece which is truly awe-inspiring. So many layers, so much passion, so much soul…

In addition to his work with Yells at Eels, Dennis Gonzalez has released 40 full length CDs, founded the Dallas based daagnimRecord label, and has played with jazz luminaries throughout Asia, Europe, Central America, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and most major American cities for the past 24 years.

Celebrating 13 years of existence, Dennis Gonzalez Yells at Eels has released 5 full length CDs, this being their first vinyl 7”. To think that the little ‘ol Tree Fall Sounds logo will appear anywhere on this release is nothing less than mind-blowing…

While you wait for the 7” to be released, check out all the specs on Yells at Eels and Dennis Gonzalez here: http://www.dennisgonzalez.com/index2.php

Soviet “Hall and Oates” Video

27 Oct

Soviet – “Hall and Oates” from Alex Wagner on Vimeo.

Take a very un-exclusive peek at Soviet’s single “Hall and Oates” which will soon be released as the B-side to Tree Fall Sounds’ second release, SOVIET ‘OK TOGETHER/HALL AND OATES’ 7′ EP.

Yeah, the Soviet fellas went all out and shot themselves a real video with a director, fake guitar solos, lights, cameras, cereal, and everything. If you haven’t seen the new Soviet 5-man formation, make sure you check that out now. John Spies being freed from the confines of a guitar makes for some seriously wild-ass leaping, face planting, and general insanity.

Enjoy!
